Base on feedback received so far (thanks Brian and Dave), I’m going to
assume these minutes are good to go and approved. I’m attaching a copy
here without the attendees highlighted in yellow. I am also attaching the
Treasurer’s report. I don’t think we’ve been emailing these to the entire
troop from what I’ve been seeing. I am happy to do so, if that is what we
want. At a minimum, we should start posting them to the troop website.
Please let me know if I need to do anything for distribution. Thanks,

Albert

I’ve only hear from one person so far. If all good, we can publish the
minutes, but let’s give it another day. How are we distributing these to
the rest of the troop? There is a spot on the website, but it looks like
the last one was July 2022. Thanks, Albert

Memorial Day Ceremonies – Timing

Good Afternoon Troop 216,

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend. This is a reminder email about
the Troop supporting the Memorial Day events on Monday. The scouts who are
participating with the two Rifle details from the American Legion and the
VFW need to Meet at the American Legion Post/Golf Course off of RT 157 at
0600. The scouts will aid the Rifle detail as they visit all of the
cemeteries in the area to perform a 21 gun salute and playing of taps. The
next event is the Memorial Day ceremony at Woodlawn Cemetery. This will
take place at 1000. Need at least two scouts to support this event. The
volunteers for the Rifle detail are listed below.

Danford
Kevin
Sam J
Trenton
Kaleb
Teddy
Sivia (3)

Adults: Kevin R, Mark M, Dave K, Mike O

I don’t remember if there were any specific volunteers for the Woodlawn
Cemetery event at 1000. We are not limited to how many scouts can
participate. The above individuals are the ones that raised their hand
Monday night. If there are other scouts that want to participate, please
let me know. Also, if I can get at least two scouts to commit to the 1000
ceremony, that would be great. Please let me know if there are any
questions.

YIS,
Mike OKoniewski

Flags at Woodlawn – Tomorrow night

Troop 216,

Just a friendly reminder that tomorrow evening in lieu of our troop
meeting, we will meet at Woodlawn Cemetery to place flags on the graves of
our fallen military members. Show time is 630pm. Please remember to wear
your Class A uniform. See you tomorrow.

Fishing Shirt Order ?

Troop 216,

Now is the time to order fishing shirts if we want to have them for summer
camp this year. The bad news is, the ones from field and stream are no
longer available. The good news is, I found some equivalent quality ones
on AMAZON. See the links below for options. There are two ways to do
this. I could solicit orders from everyone and make one purchase. Or you
can buy your shirts on your own and then I will coordinate with BJ
printables on having the embroidery done. If you’re going to order a
shirt, just let me know what color and what size just for tracking
purposes. I think the easiest way is to have everyone order their own
shirt, then do the embroidery later. THere are still at least 5 shirts
left from the last order, all grey and in larger sizes. The options below
are navy blue or Grey.

See attached flyer for a fishing trail project being led by our old friend
Kevin Buhr. Maybe this should get emailed out to all of our troop families.
Obviously, the giant city contingent will probably not be able to
participate.

Distinguished Servant Leadership Award

Good Afternoon Troop 216,

It is my honor to announce this year’s Distinguished Servant Leadership
award winners from Troop 216 are Christin Rigoni and Tim Valley. Christin
is our activities coordinator and has been in that position for almost a
year now. This position on the Troop committee is probably the most time
consuming. Without a strong organized individual at this position, regular
monthly scout activities would not happen. We’ve had some turnover at the
activities coordinator position over the last two years, and Christin has
stepped up and taken charge without missing a beat. Tim has been our Troop
Treasure for over the past 10 years or more. He has done a great job
balancing the books, providing full transparency, and keeping the Troop
financially sound. His boys have long since aged out, but he remains
dedicated to the scouting program and believes strongly that the Troop
needs some continuity at this position. Plus, just like some other adult
leaders in the troop, he still enjoys camping when he can and likes to
remain active with the program. This recognition is longer overdue.

Please join me in congratulating these two fine individuals from our adult
leadership corps. Christin and Tim will be formally recognized at the
District Awards dinner Sunday, 26 March from 4-730pm at Edison’s, Outlet
annex. This is the third year of hosting this event at a more
sociable venue and it has been a big success. Hope you all can attend and
help celebrate the accomplishments of Christin and Tim with us next week.
Please see the link below to register and the attached flyer for more
information.

CPR class opportunity, Beaumont Camping/Tubing permission slip, summer camp update

Troop 216,

Please see below for information on free CPR classes being offered for the
rest of the month.

Aslo, we will be making a decision on summer camp soon. Probably will be
the 27 FEB or 6 MAR troop meeting. Quite a bit of information has been set
out about the potential of attending an out of council camp up in
Michigan. There also was a presentation/discussion at the 23 JAN troop
meeting. Please talk to your scouts about summer camp. I fielded some
questions back in January during the presentation, but that was it. We
want to make sure we’ve alleviated any concerns about our summer camp
options. We’ve got alot on the books this summer with Philmont back in the
mix. We understand that with summer school, sports/band camps, and family
vacations, schedules don’t always line up. If your scout can’t make one of
the troops scheduled camps, there is another option at S Bar F the last
week of July. It’s a trades/stem/merit badge camp for one week and does
not require troop participation. An individual scout can attend without a
parent for the entire week. Details to follow on this event.

Please let me know if you have any more questions on Camp Owasippe in
Michigan. Looking forward to the campout this weekend. Hope to see you at
the next scout meeting.

YIS,
Mike OKoniewski

Summer Camp Discussion Monday 23 JAN – Reminder

Troop 216,

This is a friendly reminder that we will be having a summer camp parent
discussion this coming Monday at 800pm, during the last part of the regular
troop meeting. There is a good possibility we will be camping out of
council this summer at Owasippe Scout Reservation in Michigan. This is the
camp I attended as a young scout back in the 80s. It is the oldest boy
scout camp in the United States, opening in 1911 with over 5000 acres of
wilderness to enjoy. I can assure you this is an incredible camp and a
great opportunity for our troop. Please join us at 800pm for a 15 minute
presentation about what to expect. See the attached link below for the
2023 Owassippe Leader’s guide. Looking forward to seeing everyone on
Monday night.

Hi everyone. The lock in is this Friday evening at Eden Church. Please
drop off and pick up your scout at the lower back parking lot (off to the
left side of the church when facing it).

Mr Valley has offered to accompany scouts grocery shopping for the event.
Please let me know if your scout can attend Thursday evening at 7 pm,
meeting at Schnucks.

Remember to bring board and card games as well as any electronic games and
wear comfortable clothes for playing sports in the gym.

Anyone who is not currently signed up but still wants to attend the lock in
(scouts and parents alike), please let me know. The more the merrier. You
can bring money/permission slip that evening but I’d like a final head
count before grocery shopping please.

Other reminders—the Klondike Derby is Jan 20-22. * I need two adults to
commit to this event for the scouts to be able to attend. If you can
attend, please let me know.*

If you have not purchased tubing tickets for hidden valley Feb 11 at 10 AM
please do so ASAP. *Any adults willing to attend this event should please
let me know. *

*Reminder there will be quick parent meeting regarding summer camp at 8:10
pm at the 1/23/23 meeting. Please plan to attend. *

Thank you,

Christin Rigoni
