*Subject:* *Winter field day*
Hi all,
This Saturday, I and a friend will be operating in the “Winter Field Day”
contest. It is a Ham Radio event that is part contest, and part emergency
preparation. The goal is to set up a portable remote station for
communication. In the event of a natural disaster, amateur radio operators
often provide valuable emergency communications for the community.
If any Scouts are working on the amateur radio merit badge, this would be a
good opportunity to observe, and possibly fulfill a requirement or several.
If anyone is thinking about working on this merit badge, it would be a good
event to observe.
I am not a MBC in any capacity, so they would need to find a counselor and
work with them for requirements. But it’s not every day that you get to see
an operation like this “on the air”.
My contact information is readily available if anyone would like to
coordinate a time or needs directions. I will be operating from my home
address.
Please share as you see appropriate.
John Evans
