Fwd: HEADS UP: Potential CPR/WFA Class Add in May (17-19th at Camp Vandevender)

All,

Heads up that GSLAC may be adding a CPR/AED & Wilderness First Aid course
for May 17-19 at Camp Vandevender.

The cost is $70 for WRFA and $20 for CPR.
CPR-Friday 6:30pm-10:30pm.
WRFA- Saturday 8:00am-9:00pm and Sunday 7:00am-noon.

*PHILMONT TREKKERS:* This course is required for all high adventure
activities which includes Philmont. We have only two CPR/AED-WFA current
trekkers for Philmont this summer. Strongly recommend more Philmont
trekkers take this course (scouts may take this course).

Special thanks for Mr. Coolbaugh for coordinating this added class!

Stand by for more to follow.

Fwd: Marengo Cave Overnight March 30-31 – permission slips and signed waivers due by Monday, March 25th

Just a reminder, permission slips and signed waiver forms are due for

Subject: Marengo Cave Overnight March 30-31 – permission slips and signed
waivers due by Monday, March 25th
To:

This unique Troop experience emphasizes cave conservation and safe, guided
group exploring. Scouts and adults will have the opportunity to walk,
wade, climb, and crawl to see cave life in both the developed and natural,
undeveloped sections of Marengo Cave in Indiana.

Participants will arrive Saturday afternoon for their caving adventure,
sleep overnight in the cave, and leave Sunday morning following breakfast.
Marengo Cave is a 3.5 hour drive down I-64, into the Eastern time zone,
which has been considered for posted depart and return times.

The cave tour includes easy walking to more challenging sections. Anyone
may easily opt out of any portion. [The tighter challenges of the
adventure involve hand-and-knees crawling and some belly crawling. For
reference, an adult 6’2, 280 pounds was able to go through all parts;
however, the limited height openings makes crawling more difficult for
taller individuals.]

For more information, please refer to the Troop permission form and the
cave-required waiver attached, both due by the March 25 meeting.

Find the cave website here <marengocave.com/>

4/5-4/7 – Giant City Camping trip – 4/1 deadline

Parents & Scouts,

Attached is the permission slip with full details for April 5-7 @
Giant City State
Park camping. Adult participation will be important at upcoming camping
events. Philmont crew members will be using these camping activities to
prep for their July trek and will spend Saturday nights away from the main
camping site, so extra adult support will be needed. Younger scouts will
have an opportunity to learn more about future high adventure activities
and the necessary preparation for those type of activities.

May (Beaver Dam w/High Ropes) and June (Hawn State Park) camping dates are
listed on the Troop’s online calendar. Permissions will be forthcoming at
a later date.

Come support fellow Troop 216 scouts on 3/16 FIRST FRC St. Louis Regional competition

Sorry for the late notice, but needed to share…

I spent some time this afternoon watching some exciting FIRST FRC robots in
action at the SLU Chaifeta Arena! If you didn’t already know, several
Troop 216 scouts are members of FRC Team 4931 Edwardsville Technologies –
Connor Coolbaugh, Cole Smith, Jakob Schoeberle, and Garrett Valley. They
have been working tirelessly over the past 2.5 months to design, build,
program, and test their robot for this competition. Team members also help
mentor other rookie teams, promote safety, develop communication and
leadership skills, plus much more.

This year’s game is entitled “Destination Deep Space”, a theme chose to
celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Moon landing. Boeing Company is this
year’s game sponsor with over 500 Boeing employees mentoring more than 600
teams across the nation. Boeing engineers designed the space-themed game
elements. A total of 48 teams are in attendance at the St. Louis Regional
event.

*Team 4931 Edwardsville Technologies is presently in 1st place after 8
matches!!* They have pretty much held the 1st place rank most of the
competition! Tomorrow morning they compete in 2 final matches (9:56 am and
11:16 am) before playoff alliances are chosen and playoff matches begin.
The top teams advance to FIRST World Championships held in late April.
This event is *FREE and open to the public* to attend at St. Louis
University Chaifetz Arena. I invite you to come out and check out the
matches and support your fellow Troop members. You can also visit the pit
area to get up close to the robots and talk with team members. If you have
a pair a safety glasses, please bring them along with you as the event
organizers have only a limited supply available and won’t allow you in the
pit arena

If you can’t make it in person, you can watch matches online, check scores,
etc. at frc-events.firstinspires.org/2019/MOSL.
