Court of Honor – Monday night 5 OCT at the American Legion

Troop 216 Family,

Just a friendly reminder that will be hosting our Fall Court of Honor next
Monday night, 5 OCT at the American Legion in Edwardsville. The COVID
canceled our Spring Court of Honor, so there will be lots of rank
advancements, awards, and merit badges to be recognized. This will be an
outdoor ceremony per COVID guidelines. We ask that you bring a camp chair
for each member of your family that will be attending. The ceremony will
take place under the outdoor pavilion next to the golf cart garage and
begin at 630pm. This event will be held in lieu of our normal Monday night
meeting. If you have any questions, please call or email me. The address
of the American Legion is listed below. Basically, across the street from
Lincoln Middle School.

Yours in Scouting,

Mike O’Koniewski 618-791-3956

Hi, Troop 216. We will be having a camp out at Camp Warren Levis from
Friday evening 10/2 to Sunday morning 10/4.

Included in the camp out is a *Fall Camporee* on Saturday. There will be
a District Hike available at Pere Marquette from 8:00am-12:00pm. In the
afternoon at Warren Levis, starting at 1:00pm, Scouts will have a
choice of *Group
1*: Aquatics (boating) + Camp Service Project or *Group 2*: Camp Service
Project and Shooting Range. *Please indicate your Scout’s preferred choice
on the permission slip. We will do our best to accommodate these choices
but spots are limited.*

Permission slip, camp map, and medical form are attached.

*Note: If you do not have a current medical form (Annual Health and Medical
Record – Parts A & B) on file with the Troop, please complete and return
the form prior to or at check-in.*

*CAMPOUT COVID-19 SAFETY GUIDELINES*
*Transportation:* The CDC recommends avoiding pooled rides or rides where
multiple passengers are picked up who are not in the same household, so we
will not carpool as usual. Ideally, Scouts will only travel with family.
*Sleeping Arrangements:* One Scout per tent. Please indicate on the
permission slip if the Scout/adult will need a Troop tent or bring their
own.
*Food Prep and Eating:* Guidelines state that as few people should prepare
food as possible. Masks must be worn at all times when handling food.
Everyone will need to maintain distancing during meals; recommend camp
chairs a minimum of 10 ft apart.
*Mask Wearing:* Masks must be worn when proper 6 ft spacing cannot be
maintained.
*Distancing:* Boys will be encouraged to not congregate near each other
but maintain spacing of at least 6 ft.
*Cleaning Protocol:* Hand sanitizer will be available in common areas.
Shared surfaces and equipment will be regularly disinfected.

Monday 31 AUG – PLC Meeting

Good Afternoon Troop 216,

We will have a regular in-person outdoor meeting this coming Monday 24 AUG
at 700pm. However, the following Monday, 31 AUG will be having a PLC
(Patrol Leader Council) meeting at 700pm. This will be an outdoor
in-person event as well. There will be no regular troop meeting that
evening. The SPL, ASPL, all patrol leaders, assistant patrol leaders, and
boys who are in leadership positions such as quartermaster, troop guide,
historian, etc are expected to attend. In addition, any boy who wants to
have a “say” in what activities we plan for the next calendar year are
welcome to attend. The purpose of this meeting is to discuss the upcoming
scout calendar for the next 7-8 months to include campouts (where we want
to go), activities for regular troop meetings, day trips or events, merit
badge classes, etc. Hope to see you there.

-Mike O’Koniewski

Troop Meeting Tonight 10 AUG – Cancelled due to Weather

Troop 216,

Due to the approaching storms, troop leadership has decided to cancel
tonight’s meeting. Safety is always our priority and the boys got enough
rain over the weekend on the campout. A reminder that our monthly
committee meeting will take place tomorrow night in fellowship hall at the
church at 700pm. If there are any questions, please email or call me.

Thanks,

Mike OKoniewski

Warren Levis Camp Out 8/7-9 — Permission due 8/3

Parents & Scouts,

Please see the attached permission slip for full details of the camp out at
Camp Warren Levis on August 7-9. Forms may be turned in Monday, August 3,
preferably no later than 7:30 pm so that Scouts can use meeting time to
plan the meals and activities.

*If you have not submitted a new medical form in the past 12 months, please
also bring a new form (Parts A and B) on Monday. See attached for a blank
form.*

Below is more information on COVID precautions.

*Self-screening*: CDC guidelines suggest Scouts and adults answer
health-related questions before attending a group event. A health form and
temperature check will be completed the morning of departure.

*Transportation*: The CDC recommends avoiding pooled rides or rides where
multiple passengers are picked up who are not in the same household, so we
will not carpool as usual. Ideally, Scouts will only travel with family.

*Sleeping Arrangements*: One Scout per tent. Please indicate on the
permission slip if the Scout/adult will need a Troop tent or bring their
own.

*Food Prep and Eating*: Guidelines state that as few people should prepare
food as possible. Masks must be worn at all times when handling food.
Everyone will need to eat in isolation; recommend camp chairs with a
minimum of 10 ft apart. Adults will prepare and cook any shared meal.
Alternatively, each individual will prepare and eat their own meal (for
example, MREs or individually packaged food). Disposable plates, cups,
utensils, etc. will be used.

*Mask Wearing*: Masks must be worn when proper 6 ft spacing cannot be
maintained.

*Distancing*: Boys will be encouraged to not congregate near each other but
maintain spacing of at least 6 ft.

*Cleaning Protocol*: Bathroom will be wiped down 3x per day by an adult
(with bleach wipes). Hand sanitizer will be available in bathroom and in
all common areas. Shared surfaces and equipment will be regularly
disinfected.

Thank you!

Troop 216,

Sorry for the day of email, but I was trying to wait till the last minute
to get the most updated weather forecast. That being said, there’s an 80%
chance of rain tonight during our meeting. We have not been able to secure
a location with a pavillion that could accommodate us during inclement
weather. So, tonight’s troop meeting will be a Zoom only event. Start
time is 700pm. I will re-send the email with the link shortly after
sending this email.

Hope all is well with everyone.

Yours in Scouting,

Mike O’Koniewski

> Good evening! I wanted to remind you all that we are going to have our second session over unit planning, this time with a direct focus on how to plan now that things have changed so much. This will take place on Wednesday, May 27th, from 7-8 pm with the first 30 minutes designated to Cub Scouts and the second 30 minutes designated to ScoutsBSA. If you missed our first session and want to check out the teaching documents used, you can find them on our district website here. This is the link for next week’s session: gslac.zoom.us/j/97315846588. Here is the call-in information if you prefer phone: 646-876-9923.
>
> As a general guideline, we will go over what things the council has created regarding program, what things the district is working on to provide, a rough calendar outline of what the next 3 months could consist of, and finally a section to collaborate and brainstorm as a Scouting community.
>
> If for some reason you aren’t able to make it next Wednesday we are also going to hold a “District General Session” on June 2nd to provide updates and allow a time for general Q&A for anything you guys may be wondering about. We really hope that through these extra times we are able to help you guys adapt to what may be a strange normal. Remember, we are all a part of a Scouting community, so don’t feel like you have to create a brand new system alone! We want to work as a District to build up our Scouts the best we can. A link for June 2nd session will be sent out at a later date.
