Environmental Science Merit Badge Workshop this Saturday! PLEASE READ

At least 20 of our scouts have completed at least 1 requirement for the
Environmental Science merit badge. Megan from the Edwardsville Watershed
has offered to help us complete a large portion of this badge within 2
hours this weekend. We will be able complete at least 5 of the
requirements at the Watershed with some fun hands on activities. Please
review with your scouts and encourage them to attend this Saturday. We
will meet at the Watershed at 8:30AM (Watershed Nature Center, 1591 Tower
Avenue, Edwardsville, Illinois 62025). We are planning to complete this
within 2 hours. You are welcome to stay and hang out or just pick them up
at 10:30.

Please text me at 314-809-3267 or email me at albert@arnoldcompany.com if
your scout is able to attend. I just want to make sure we have a decent
showing for Megan’s time. Environmental Science is an Eagle required merit
badge, so this is a great opportunity to achieve this task.

Cole or Adrian, you might want to think about sharing this with your
Patrol Leaders if possible.

Thank you,

Albert

Fwd: Court of Honor Tomorrow!, Beaumont Horse Riding, Environmental Science

Please read. A few quick important reminders for this upcoming week.

– Our Court of Honor will be held at the church tomorrow evening at 7PM
in place of our normal scout meeting. Please try to arrive on time, and
Scouts, make sure to wear your full Class A’s including neckerchief.
Parents are very welcome and encouraged to attend.
– There is still an option for horseback riding at Beaumont Scout
Reservation Sunday the 18th, although at the moment we are considering
rescheduling (see attached). We need at least one more adult leader in
order to have it and right now there are not very many scouts. If you would
like to attend, please bring the attached permission slip to tomorrow’s
meeting and let Diane Gill know you are interested in attending. (
diane.gill67@gmail.com, 618-616-6774). Targeting the 10:30AM session at
the moment, but please state if that doesn’t work. Final decision will be
made tomorrow night.
– We have a great opportunity to complete several Environmental Science
merit badge requirements next Saturday morning at the Edwardsville
Watershed Nature Center. We plan to complete at least 4-5 of the
requirements while we are there. The plan is to meet there from 8:30AM –
10:30AM Saturday the 17th. Separate email to follow, but please attend if
you would like to complete this merit badge.

Please feel free to reach out with any questions.

Thanks,
Albert Middeke

Swim Tests & Summer Camp Payment

Hi, Troop 216.

*Swim Test, Sunday 4/11*
As part of the Spring Camporee there will be a canoeing leg of the relay
race as well as an open boating session. Scouts and adults who will be
canoeing will need to be a BSA Swimmer per the Safety Afloat guidelines.
With that in mind, the District has arranged an opportunity for Scouts and
adults to take the swim test. *Swim tests will be available on Sunday,
April 11 at the Edwardsville High School (EHS) pool at no cost.* I have
requested a time slot for later in the afternoon since many of us will be
returning from camp that morning. I will update this as soon as I know the
exact time. *The last date to add names will be Friday, April 9th*, so
please email Martina Bishopp at parzivalxf@yahoo.com no later than that
afternoon. Note: Late arrivals will not get to swim.

Sorry for the short notice. If there are issues making it to this swim test
event, please contact Martina Bishopp at parzivalxf@yahoo.com to discuss
options.

*Summer Camp reminder:*
The initial payment is due 4/5. You’ll need to use the Parent Portal to
make the $150 payment. (See the attached for your ID/PW. If you don’t have
one, let me know. If you want to use the Scout account, also let me know.)

Beaver Dam/High Ropes 4/9-11 – permission and waiver due at NEXT MTG Mon Mar 22

Troop 216 has unfortunately had to cancel the Meramec campout for this
weekend due to low participation, so we are extra excited for our next
upcoming camp out! It will be the weekend of April 9-11 in Beaver Dam
State Park <www.dnr.illinois.gov/Parks/Pages/BeaverDam.aspx>, at
the Beavers Den group campsite, about a 45 minute drive.

On Saturday morning April 10, Scouts may participate in the High Ropes
Adventure <www.lakewilliamson.org/eagle-crest/high-ropes/> located
15-20 minutes from the State Park. This is an event that our Troop has
participated in for several years and has found rewarding; however, taking
part in High Ropes is optional. High Ropes requires a signed waiver for
every participant, adult or Scout, and the waiver can be found at the above
linked site or attached below. We will need adequate supervision and
transportation for this off-site event that lasts until noon.

Those unable to camp may meet the Troop at the High Ropes location at 8:45
am.

Please see the attached permission form and waiver, *due at our next
meeting on March 22*, for further details and to sign up for camping, high
ropes, or both, at a cost of $25 for each person for each event. The
deadline of next Monday the 22nd is necessary with the Troop’s observance
of No School/No Scouts during the ECUSD7 Spring Break.

It is required we have at least 4 registered adults in attendance for this
campout to occur and we are hoping to make our minimum requirement of 12
participants for High Ropes. If any questions, please contact Diane Gill at
diane.gill67@gmail.com or 618 616 6774.

Troop Meeting Tonight – 3/15

Just a reminder and a clarification for tonight’s in person meeting at
First Christian Church. Going forward, we will return to traditional start
and stop times, starting at 7PM, ending at 8:30 with announcements at
8:15. It is very helpful to have parents that aren’t staying for the
meeting return at 8:15 to hear any announcements for the upcoming weeks.
Don’t forget to bring your permission slips if you are attending the
Meramec Caverns campout. We have a full agenda tonight, part of which will
be nominations for APL and SPL.

We will continue to offer a zoom option for those that cannot attend the in
person meeting. I’ve copied the zoom meeting info below for reference.
Thank you
